About me

Hello, I’m Jo and I’m a TEFL qualified English tutor from London, UK. I’ve been teaching online conversation classes on Italki for the past two years. I feel very lucky to be able to talk to people from around the world, listening and learning about their lives and cultures. I'm friendly, open minded, non-judgemental and easy to talk to.

In addition to live online conversation classes, I create English learning content on my social media channels with over 45k followers on Instagram.

I’m a mum to two teenagers, a cats and a dog. Previously, I’ve worked in mental health and social media. I'm interested in current affairs, psychology, technology, literature, social justice and lots more.

Me as a teacher

Firstly, please don't be nervous! I'm here to help you practice your English conversation skills and it's my job to try to make you feel comfortable and enjoy the class.

I studied Modern Languages at Liverpool University and I know how important it is to build your confidence when learning a language. So, I try to offer an informal, safe, encouraging, supportive environment where you can build you confidence and fluency in English without worrying about being judged. I'm happy to make corrections, but it's always done in a gentle way.

My lessons

I have flexible, informal approach to teaching, tailoring my lessons to your requirements. My teaching style is gentle, supportive and encouraging.

The aim of each class is to encourage you to speak as much English as possible, so I try and focus on subjects that will interest you.

Sometimes we might look at an article together or watch a short video clip to give us material for discussion. Or perhaps you just want a 30 minute chat about your week

My students

My students are usually adults with an intermediate/ advanced level of English.

I work with people from all walks of life and all over the world. Some are at university, others are professionals who want to improve their conversational English. Some students are preparing for their IELTs speaking tests while others simply want the opportunity to use or freshen up their spoken English skills.

Almost all my students want to feel more confident when speaking in English.
